On the Seychellois island of La Digue you can find a beach named ‘The most beautiful beach in the world’ . Quite a bold and subjective statement, given the variety of beaches there are. But to be honest, the Source D’Argent is without a doubt the most beautiful beach I have ever visited. So I can’t not show you my pictures!
To get to La Digue we took a short ferry ride from the main island of Mahé. With beautiful island views and the chance of seeing marine life, the ferry journey is well worth paying for a seat on the upper open deck. I saw my first flying fish!
We reached the beach via hired bicycles. The most common mode of transport on the island. Having only 2 main roads, residents and visitors to La Digue get around by foot or bike, and very rarely by a motorised vehicle such as a golf cart. The lack of vehicle brings a sense of old-timey vibes and peacefulness. There’s something quite charming about having your own bike with a little basket on the back. It took me back to memories of fun childhood bike rides with the wind blowing in my hair.
We just so happened to visit the Source D’Argent on a week day. This I would highly recommend, as it meant there wasn’t too many people around. Also, to get the best experience (and pictures) I would suggest visiting on a sunny, clear day. Haha, it’s hard to believe not every day is sunny in the Seychelles, right? We visited the beach around the end of March. Which is ideal as April is the time of year when weather conditions are at their calmest (Ideal for snorkelling) . October is also a good month to visit for this reason!
To gain access to the beach, you must cross through the L’Union Estate (costing 115 rupees, or £6.50, per non-resident person). But the Estate is an attraction in itself! With vanilla plantations to explore, cafe’s to dine at, and even giant tortoises to feed!
The island of La Digue has a slowed down pace of life. It almost feels like you’re walking around the grounds of a luxury resort, only, you’re not. If you’re looking to experience a stereotypical tropical island life, away from the hustle and bustle of the mainland – I can’t recommend visiting La Digue enough!
That’s one incredible travel adventure ticked off the bucket list!
